REMOVABLE BRACES
................................................................................................................
Removable braces are commonly used to improve the bite. They are often used when many deciduous (baby) teeth are still present.
Removable braces are carefully made to fit your mouth exactly and to straighten your teeth as quickly as possible. A plastic plate covers the roof of the mouth and stainless steel clips hold the brace on the back teeth. Your brace may feel uncomfortable for the first few days and during this period your speech may be affected.
Wear the brace all of the time, including meals, and avoid eating hard or sticky foods. Your brace should be removed for brushing and contact sports only. Take the brace out using the clips at the back. When putting the brace back in, make sure the wires go into the correct place. If you remove the brace, place it in a rigid box to protect it - replacements are expensive.
The length of treatment varies but is usually 6 - 18 months.
You will be seen every six to eight weeks by your orthodontist to have your brace adjusted. You must still attend your own general dentist for your regular 6 monthly dental check ups.
If your brace is broken or uncomfortable please continue to wear it if possible and contact us immediately for an appointment so that it can be adjusted or repaired.
