There is a new generation of fixed appliances which allow for reduced friction between the brackets on the teeth and the straightening wires.
These are called self-ligating braces and treatment can be completed sooner and with lower force wires, making the whole process more comfortable. The only disadvantage is that colours are not usually added and the braces are either metal or ceramic or a combination of both.
